Website of the Week: Foundling Review

Foundling Review is an online literary magazine that I was introduced to via Facebook and Metazen. If you don't remember, or haven't read I did a feature of Metazen back in December of '09 which you can find here. I'm a big fan of the small literary magazines because they often publish writers that you would never hear about or read otherwise - they help us writers get our foot in the door.
Their front page says "Foundling Review - where simple pleasures are coralled into folds of finely finessed sentences."
Their about us page says that they are looking to "give you the opportunity to publish your best work." There's no complicated mission statement, complex idealology except for an appreciation of finely crafted words and an enjoyment of reading and writing. It's a place for words with meaning, writers with dreams, and readers who love to read.
While they're not yet paying for submissions, having your piece accepted is something to celebrate - having people read your work and give you feedback, gaining readership - it's all a part of the process of being a writer. These smaller non-paying magazines are part of the process and a great way to start submitting work and a great place to find new authors.
Foundling Review publishes anywhere from once a week to once every three days, including 2-3 pieces of fiction and 2-5 poems (but they do make the occasional exception). They do accept previously published work - reprints - but with the caveat that it "packs a wallop." Simultaneous submissions are also accepted so long as you notify them if it is accepted by another market. Find out more about their submission policies here.
There's a lot of online literary magazines out there - so why should you submit to Foundling Review? Well I'd advise you to check it out for yourself and find out.
