Featured Blog: Kittling: Books

Kittling: Books"Kittling: Books - Dogs bark. Fires burn. Birds fly. I read. (Mostly mysteries.)" Cathy's blog is an extension of her addiction to books.  She reads a variety of different genres but gravitates towards crime fiction/mystery novels (so if you're a crime fiction/mystery buff here's a great blog for you to add to your feeds!).  And in case you were wondering, and because I know I was "kittling... is a Gaelic word that means "anything that strikes [my] fancy."  You can find out more a bout Cathy at her about page.

She has a variety of posts - categories like Mailbox Monday - which is a part of a meme hosted by Marcia at The Printed Page where participants write about what books they've received in the mail (via Paperback Swap or otherwise) and share them with other particpants and readers. Other categories include the Weekly Link Roundup - which is a list of links separated into categories like Bookish News, Blog posts, Blogging Tips, and links to blogs new to Cathy's Google Reader.  There's also Wordless Wednesdays (where Cathy posts an photograph). And then there is her Book Reviews and the Scene of the Blog posts which are my personal favorites.

Cathy's book reviews are honest, she doesn't claim to love everything about every book, which is very appreciable about a book reviewer (and I've found there are many, many, reviewers who are honest and don't hold back out there), yet she doesn't give a book a terrible review just because she didn't like one thing about it. Read her most recent review to get the feeling about what I mean here.  She's fair, and tells her readers what worked for her and what didn't, in terms of character developement, plot, setting, etc.  Not all reviews are terribly in depth, but give a good overall feeling for the novel, and she doesn't give anything away that you wouldn't read on the back cover.  Readers should also take a look at her recommended mystery-series page

The Scene of the Blog posts are posts where Cathy gets information, and photographs from other book bloggers so that we can all get a peek at how everyone else does their writing and reading.  In fact she did a Scene of the Blog post on Anastasia from Birdbrain(ed) Book Blog, we featured her last week here.  Readers get to see other writers/readers blogging space, as well as get a peak at their book collection.  It's also a unique way to feature various bloggers in the blogging community and for readers a great way to discover other book blogs to enjoy.
